The last few months have been full of family and lots of adventures. The above pictures were taken at an apple festival where we ate lots of good food and enjoyed the music. We also found an antique hand-cranked ice cream maker which Scott fixed up and makes excellent ice cream.
Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Bryan visited in early October so we took advantage of the local pumpkin patch and apple cider mill. It was very cold that day but the weather did not stop us from enjoying apple doughnuts, a corn maze, and wagon ride. Kara frequently referred to them as "grandma" and "grandpa" which was quite humorous. Stephanie got a Wii for her birthday which Scott and Bryan played well into the night on multiple occasions.
The above pictures are from more family visits - this time from Sarah, her kids, and my parents. We celebrated the twins' birthday with a pinata which required a little help from the adults. We also visited an apple barn where the girls got to ride on horses. One horse had been giving rides all morning and then when little Kara got on it refused to go. They switched horses and Kara eventually got her ride. The place had yet another corn maze and lots of good food. Nico and Rebekah enjoyed carving pumpkins despits having to touch the "icky" stuff inside.
It was a lot of fun have 5 kids in the house but very busy. We enjoyed watching them play together. Nico even enjoyed playing princess with Rebekah. The twins love Thomas train so a sticker book with that theme kept them occupied for hours.
At the beginning of November the Savery parent's arrived for more fun. The picture of Kara is from a friend's birthday party. The theme was "construction" and all the kids wore little outfits and enjoyed destroying things. Papa, the girls, and Scott successfully made our first hand-cranked vanilla ice cream. It was delicious! While visiting we went to a museum in Kansas City with artifacts from an 1800s steamboat that had sank and then been recovered several years agbo. It was quite amazing that so many things had survived in the mud including fruit in sealed cans, tools, buttons, etc.
At the last minute we decided to visit Branson, MO and stayed at a log cabin. We had a great time at the Silver Dollar City theme park. They already had their Christmas decorations out - it was hard to get in the mood since it is not even Thanksgiving. At the end of the night they had a light parade with various floats in it and Cinderella even shook Rebekah's hand. She was very excited but was concerned that she did not have on glass slippers.
Rebekah is now writing her first name and likes to identify letters of the alphabet. She continues to enjoy coloring and her "privacy" in her room by herself. She loves playing with her friends and Kara and has quite an imagination. Princess dresses are a must when music is playing in the house.
Kara is quite the talker. She talks morning to evening unless she is napping but she has a wonderful enthusiasm for life. She can now go potty with just the help of her big sister - yeah! - which makes like much easier for me.
